Too much endurance lost when swinging a sledge, but the better long blunt alternative is shovels. More reach than crowbar, more damage, weighs less, more abundant, and can be repaired. Unfortunately shovels have poor durability. I like bats, more damage and reach than crowbars, higher knockdown chance, and good durability.
What I'd do is this. First backup your save (c/user/project zomboid/saves) somewhere. Just copy the folder of your save. Then start the game from steam with -debug in the launch parameters. Click on the new icon, ingame, on your left. It's a fly. Go to item list and spawn a new sledgehammer. Equip it and see if that works.
