I set up a couple tiles with a quarry and some mining rods, and boosted their speed with power plants. These tiles are completely self sufficient, and I stopped manually mining anything after I set them up.

Forager has a lot of quests in the game, and you'll need to complete them in order to make good progress. Often, you'll be rewarded with Spirit Orbs which allow you to increase your maximum health, maximum energy or levels. You'll also receive artefacts which provide special bonuses to your character. Quests are not the same as puzzles.
The crafting ingredients are Crystal, Obsidian, and Royal Steel. Crystal can crafted in a Flower Press, or it spawns from having a Quarry (Deposit skill). It may also naturally spawn in the Winter biome. Obsidian spawns naturally in the Fire biome, or from a Quarry. Royal steel can be crafted using steel, coal, and gems.
