2018 marks the 50th anniversary of the Hominy Falls Mine Disaster that took place in the heart of the Appalachian coal fields in Nicholas County, West Virginia on May 6, 1968. Twenty five coal miners were trapped in an underground tomb when 15 million gallons of water broke into the Hominy Falls mine from an abandoned work site.
