They're supposed to be incredibly rare on The Island. In about 2 weeks of single player, maybe 15 hrs per week, I've seen 2 gigas. Lvl 100 and a lvl 40, tamed both of them for eggs. But yeah I've not seen the new charca at all and only 2 gigas. If playing SP maybe try the destroywilddinos command.
