This is just a technical assignment. It's like valve would have named Counter Strike Source > Counterstrike Stand Alone. Yes it is a stand alone version, but doesn't make any sense to name it like that, favorable since an actual final version of dayz never existed anyways.

I’ve been recently been told getting arms 3 and playing DayZ through that has lots of AI and missions that work far better than the DayZ stand alone AI mod. On our server they are kinda stupid AI but the admin said if they made them any “smarter” they would head shot you on site every time.

Well, you can go it solo but you can't play it in a solo offline world. It has to be on a server. If you wanted, the closest you could come is buying a server, putting a password lock and then you could be good. However that route gets the server taken out of the hive so your character wouldn't transfer.
