So, what finally worked for me was simply leaving the TwlBg.cxi file in /luma/sysmodules folder without renaming it, and deleting the /_nds/TWiLightMenu/TwlBg folder altogether. This way however, the whole Twilight Menu and every nds game is stretched (which is perfectly fine for me, tbh).
