Jun 15, 2019 · DEF Limp Mode! Well my truck is stuck in def limp mode and it wants me to take it to the dealer. I pulled apart my def tank, cleaned everything, and put it back together. I cleared the codes and the check engine light went away. It's still stuck in limp mode and will not drive over 5 mph. Very frustrating! Either will trigger a "permanent" Def limp mode that won't override. The only way out of that one is to flash the ECM. I figured that out over about an hour at a gas station in middle of nowhere NM. Luckily I have a previous emissions intact tune with an mm3 still installed. Reflashed the ECM and it reset the system.Unfortunately, if it doesn't and the countdown reaches zero, the engine won't start again and you'll have to have it towed to the dealer. A few people have mentioned a VCDS procedure that will reset it, but I don't remember what it is off the top of my head. Ross-Tech's website will probably have more information.
