The noise is absent when the engine is on and only shows itself when the engine is shut off. This tells me that it's something that makes more noise when the engine vibrates slower as it's turning off. Something has to be loose, imo. Sound can travel, but I can say for sure now that it isn't the rear main or the torque converter.
