Depending on mileage, freshen up the injection pump and injectors, and get the engine timed properly. Makes all the difference in the world as far as performance and mileage are concerned. Clarkston, michigan. 6.9 IDI will not start. I recently purchased 1987 Ford E350 w/ 6.9 IDI and a Banks Turbo. 94,000 miles. Vehicle sat a long time w/o starting (possible 2-3 yrs). I purchased truck becaused I've always wanted a diesel (this is my first) and 6.9 IDI posts suggest this a strong, reliable, not to fancy power plant.

AFAIK the 7.3's all use the same filter head, with the same fuel heater in it. The 6.9's had a fuel heater on the line between the lift pump and filter head.

Feb 16, 2009 · Just jack up the truck and spin the tire by hand. If you need a reference, you can hold a pointer or stick with a couple of bricks near the tread. That is very easy and will tell you if the tire is out or the wheel is bent (much more likely these days). To check the wheel, put the pointer next to the rim while you spin.

On the DI side, i believe (from my experiences) an injector tip with fewer, larger holes performs better with wmo.Turning up the fuel really requires not special tools at all.
