Aug 3, 2021 · Remove the Faucet Handle. Turn the faucet handle upside down. It is usually connected to the faucet cartridge using a hex screw on its underside. Use the correct size of Allen wrench to loosen and remove the hex screw. Pull out the handle and place it away together with the screw. Pull the handle cap (#1) out of the handle (#3) and unthread the Phillips screw (#2) using a Phillips screwdriver. Remove the handle (#3) and slide the wall tube (#4) out. Use pliers to unthread the cartridge nut (#5) and then pull out the stem extension (#6). Using pliers, grab the white stem of the cartridge (#7) and pull the cartridge (#7) out.Identify and order the correct replacement cartridge for your faucet. Most of the single handle Moen shower faucets after 2009 use the Moen 1222 cartridge. If you are unsure, remove the old one prior to purchasing a replacement.
