It used to shudder/vibrate/rattle annoyingly at around 1800-2000 rpm at around 35-40 mph while going up a hill with light accelerator pressure. Seemed like it didn't want to downshift. First check the fluid for correct level and any signs of being burnt. Symptoms and lack of any warning light (s) when it has happened doesn't sound like TSS or OSS (speed sensors in the transmission).

Add a small amount of gas, not enough to downshift, and the car shudders noticeably. Car is still in warranty, and the dealer has scheduled a transmission overhaul end of March. The transmission fluid in the Escape should be changed every 30,000 miles. The dealership may also have an update for your computer.
