I rather play with stamina than hearts. You can always create recipes for extra hearts. There's still stamina recipes too, but you use stamina more often than the amount of time you get hit. Also, BotW you get a divine beast blessing that helps with hearts as well. If you want to pull the master sword, go for hearts.

So if you have 4 full hearts, and an enemy does 8 hearts of damage, you'll lose 3.75 hearts. If you had 8 hearts for the same attack you'd lose 7.75 hearts.
