Bg3 slow loading.

Feb 22, 2022 · Recently my BG3 has started to load very slowly. I am talking minutes to finally get to the screen where I can select my save game. I have uninstalled BG3 and installed it again several times. Uninstalled my NVidia graphics drivers and reinstalled. I know its not my CPU, RAM or SSD card because intermittently it does load within seconds but ... My computer can run BG3 with certain settings turned down (low shadows, no god rays, no ambient occlusion, etc), but it stills eats up almost all of my memory to run the thing. The game will slow down, I'll have frequent frame drops, and when I load into an area, it takes ages for all the objects/terrain to render in. Baldur's Gate 3 is finally launched for the PC, Google Stadia, and macOS X platforms after waiting for decades. The game has already made a good impression o... Basically, the map, textures, models, etc, load WAAAAY to slow. Even the menu map takes ~3 minutes to fully load. And when I try to walk, the game keeps reloading the assets (I even managed to find some out-of-bounds stuff like dev textures lol). If it is as fast as it should be, I guess the problem is with the files or game settings, something must be limiting the speed. It is kinda slow, yes. M.2 nvme, pretty good one and it takes me 20-40sec, when memory leak hits it got to over a minute.

The HDD being external is bottlenecking your asset load times to USB speed. If you have it on an internal SSD, this will improve your experience immensely. It is kind of a requirement to run games on SSD in 2023. It is not a hard requirement yet, but if you don't want issues like this you have no other choice really.
