From what I've been told, most of your tanking as mage comes from higher cata, which is why mage is usually played by higher cata players. Using a whale instead of a damage pet or sheep can cost you especially in f7 where the mobs are tougher and the dungeon is larger. Could be wrong tho.

Lcm in f7 is the most pointless thing you could do. There's no need for that single target dps (which is the whole point of the play stile), since even a spirit scepter could do enough damage to kill the wither bosses. If you really wanna go for it, hype is not required since SS is as good as hyp at clear/boss with enough cata levels.1b dungeons (f7 mainly) setup.
