I think every game should go by Bloodborne philosophy of dodging. Except you couldn't be as quick in heavier armor. Quickstep has more iframes than roll and roll has more iframes than BB sidestep so it's not entirely bb philosophy, also ER quickstep was nerfed and now it has a follow up in form of backstep attack.

You don't roll around if you can just make a small jump. It kind of feels like an old relic that should be replaced by now. Quick step is faster, and gives you more I-frames. Quickstepping to the side seems to roll all the way around behind them. A regular roll just rolls to the side.
