As for the thermostat---follow the upper radiator hose to the back (driver's side) of the engine above the transmission and the fitting the hose is connected to is the thermostat housing. The whole housing must be replaced as the thermostat is not a separate piece as in older engines.

Now when the car is stationary or on a signal, the needle goes one point above the half and comes back to half (automatically). It seems the fan brings it down.
